Henry Coba is a trombonist, keyboardist, composer, arranger, writer, producer, farmer,

He recently earned a Master of Music in Jazz Studies at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance, where he studied under Steve Owen, Ken Mastrogiovanni, Idit Shner, Lindsey Rodgers, Jon Bellona, Lance Miller, and Paul Krueger. As a Graduate Teaching Fellow at the university, he led the Latin Jazz Ensemble, assisted with administrative tasks, and occasionally directed large ensembles.
Henry has a wide range of experience as a performer. He plays trombone with Orquesta
Cambalache, an active salsa band based in Seattle, Washington. As a horn player, he also
contributes to the music of Seattle-based groups Eléré. He enjoys gigging with his own small
groups, producing original music, and accompanying ballerinas at the Seattle Armory on
Monday nights as a pianist under the direction of Elaine Bonow.
In May 2019, Henry had the privilege of studying at Willamette University where he received his
Bachelor of Arts in music with a Minor in Spanish. He studied under professors James Miley,

Arsen Gulua, Sean Nobel Flannery, Marva Duerksen, Carson Keeble, Patricia Varas, Héctor
Agüero, Mike Nord, and Mary R. Bachvarova.
During his time as an undergraduate, he had the opportunity to study for a semester at
Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador, where he participated in salsa, hip-hop, funk,
and big band ensembles as a trombonist. He teaches in Spanish and English and believes that
language and culture deeply inform our perception of music, existence, nature, values, beliefs,
art, mind, soul, love, and ourselves.
He loves to share his passion for performance, technique, jazz, free improvisation, composition, and music production. He believes his role as a teacher is to gently assist students in finding their own voice through
music and conversation.
Henry enjoys yoga, cycling, backpacking, making sourdough bread, gardening, reading, and
offering biodynamic craniosacral therapy through sacred touch.
