Aaron Harmonson draws upon an extremely broad range of passions and pursuits built on over 30 years of experience performing and recording music. With great adoration spanning the raw self expression of a Jacqueline Du Pre cello performance, to the meticulously crafted ‘chaos’ of Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly, to community building aspects of various folk musics; there aren’t many aspects of music Aaron doesn’t take an interest in.
As an upright and electric bassist, Aaron has appeared on recordings alongside Vicki Peterson (The Bangles), John Convertino (Calexico, Neko Case, Iron and Wine), Levon Henry (Allen Tousaint, Michelle Ndegeocello), and Matthew Caws (Nada Surf); performed regularly with Sierra Ferrell; and was the resident jazz bassist at the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong. As a guitarist, he plays with Randy Weeks (songwriter of the Grammy-nominated song “Can’t Let Go” off of Lucinda Williams’ Grammy-winnning Car Wheels on a Gravel Road and Robert Plant & Allison Krauss’ 2022 album Raise the Roof), and recorded alongside Jimmy James (Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio, True Loves, H.E.R.). As a cellist, he’s written string arrangements, performed, and recorded with Von Wildenhaus (which Iggy Pop referred to as “advance porch blues”). Aaron has produced / co-produced recordings from Von Wildenhaus, Kristin Allen Zito, Sofie Mae, Evening Bell, Louis Ledford, and Annie Ford.
